the bow of the Tamarind Dhow, ‘The Nawalikher
meaning the gateway to heaven’ appropriately
named. You will be greeted by a smiling waiter with

the Nawalikher gently sails
away from its mooring and heads for the historic Fort Jesus. Spot-lit
in the evening, the scene conjures up visions of galleons and
ghosts but then the dhow turns and heads back past the tamarind
jetty. A more modern vision looms ahead; the Nyali Bridge, where
passengers erupt with astonishment as the optical illusion gives
the impression that the dhow cannot pass underneath the construction
safely… your host will answer you questions and always bring
the history of Mombasa alive.
The voyage continues up Tudor creek,
for dinner (either an assortment of fresh seafood or steak) prepared
by the renowned Tamarind Restaurant, on charcoal grills, right

Africa! Leave Mombasa before sunrise, a drive of about 115km’s
in the direction of Nairobi, takes you to “bachuma
gate” where you enter the east section of the Tsavo
national park – Kenya’s largest game sanctuary,
famed for its huge herds of elephants. it is also the home
of lion, rhino, giraffe and zebra as well as a variety of
other game. You will see water birds at the Aruba dam on
the way to Voi safari lodge where lunch will be served.

at the waterhole in front of the lodge may be taken. after
