More About Kenya Other Attractions

The Great Rift Valley and its Lakes

The Great Rift Valley is a vast geographical and geological feature, approximately 6,000 kilometres (3,700 mi) in length, which runs from northern Syria in Southwest Asia to central Mozambique in East Africa. Caused by the geological process of rifting, it is a complex feature where several plates of the earth's crust join. The rift valley varies in width from thirty to one hundred kilometers, and in depth from a few hundred to several thousand meters. It was named by the explorer John Walter Gregory. While on a Great Rift Valley Safari, you visit one of the wonders of the world. The valley forms a wide trench (about 5400 miles long) down the length of Africa that is visible from the moon. The Rift Valley is one of the wonders of the world, stretching from the Middle East, down through Africa, reaching as far as Mozambique. The staggering view, as you approach from Nairobi, Kenya is quite unbelievable. The ground suddenly disappears from under you to show the huge expanse of the great rift, stretching for thousands of miles in either direction. Whilst this stunning introduction to the Rift valley is amazing in itself, actually descending and exploring the Lakes area of the Rift in Kenya is a "not to be missed" opportunity. .

Kenya has become a global leader for major world conferences and meetings. Kenya, in East Africa, has so much to offer for group travel than most people ever imagine. Kenya joined the world league as a conferences and international meetings destination after the completion of the striking Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC) in 1973. This conference center complemented Nairobi's other attractions; notably a pleasant year-round climate, a unique array of pre and post-conference tours and a wide range of accommodations all within walking distance of the center. Ornithology and Bird-Watching Safaris

Kenya is one of the richest bird areas in the world. With a wealth of different habitats, often close to each other, it's quite easy to spot over 100 species in one day. Although many of the birds are brightly colored and exotic looking, they are generally quite easily recognized; within a day or two you will be identifying the various species with ease! Their main habitats include water, open plains, woodlands and farmlands. Even a short two or three day safari will provide an excellent species count for the ardent bird watcher; a longer trip will ensure a superb introduction to the over 1,000 species found in Kenya. Kenya’s huge variety of environments, including snow on the higher mountains, cool lush forests, open temperate plains, lowland tropical forests, mangrove swamps and seashores, is one of the reasons for the abundance of bird life.

Beach Holidays (Sun, Sand and Sea attractions)

The Kenyan coast is lined with pristine white sand beaches fringing the warm inviting waters of the Indian Ocean. Here the wilderness meets the sea, and the ocean itself holds a world of spectacular coral reefs teeming with life and colour. The coast is a place with a long and exotic history, its calm blue waters the traditional passage of the Arabian Spice Trade. No visit to the continent of Africa is complete without a visit to the coastal Indian Ocean beaches and the adjacent romantic islands. After your safari, take a few days to relax at the warm tropical beaches and explore thier sorroundings. You can also visit the beaches exclusively but remember to take a Safari Excursion into the mainland. Remember to visit one of the following coastal destinations on your trip and it will definitely spice up your African Vacation.
